Interpret the test

Separate DualSense behavior from connection and game settings.

A useful PS5 controller diagnosis keeps the connection, firmware and game-specific settings separate. Confirm the browser-visible symptom first, then change one variable at a time.

Compare USB-C and Bluetooth as separate tests

Use a data-capable USB-C cable for the first reference run, then repeat over Bluetooth without changing the browser or controller. A charging-only cable can power the DualSense without carrying input, while Bluetooth can vary with battery level, distance and radio interference. Different results between the two modes point to the connection path rather than automatically proving stick wear.

Know what the standard Gamepad API omits

Browsers commonly expose both sticks, face buttons, the D-pad, shoulders and analog triggers. The touchpad surface, motion sensors, speaker, battery state, adaptive-trigger effects and advanced haptics are not consistently available through the standard mapping. A missing advanced feature is therefore not evidence that the controller is defective.

Use the lowest-risk repair sequence

Update the controller and console or computer software, repeat an untouched test, and compare another cable, port or computer before opening the shell. A game can apply its own deadzone and response curve, so reproduce the symptom in more than one environment. Check Sony support and warranty terms before cleaning internally or replacing a stick module.

Can I test a PS5 controller on a Mac or PC?

Yes, if the browser and operating system expose the DualSense through the Gamepad API. Chrome or Edge on desktop generally offers the broadest compatibility.

Does testing change my controller settings?

No. Gamepad Bench only reads exposed input values. It does not write firmware, calibration values or console settings.

Will cleaning always fix DualSense drift?

No. Dust can cause unstable input, but worn internal components may require professional repair or replacement. Check warranty options before opening the controller.

Why are some DualSense features missing?

Adaptive triggers, advanced haptics, audio and battery details are not consistently exposed through the standard browser Gamepad API.
